How To Enroll
Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS)
If you are a service member, retiree, or dependent, DEERS registration is the key to getting your TRICARE benefits eligibility established. DEERS is a computerized database of military sponsors, Families and others worldwide who are entitled under the law to TRICARE benefits. Active-duty and retired service members are automatically registered in DEERS, but they must take action to register their Family members and ensure they're correctly entered into the database.
Most military benefits for members and dependents such as exchange stores, commissaries, recreation facilities, theaters, and medical care facilities (including TRICARE) require a valid identification card. Military members are issued ID cards upon entry on active duty and may obtain replacement or corrected cards at most service installations.
Receiving Healthcare Insurance
The training and salary you get as a Soldier are only some of the ways the Army strengthens you for tomorrow. The Army also offers money for education, comprehensive health care, generous vacation time, Family services and support groups, special pay for special duties and cash allowances to cover the cost of living.
The Army is committed to the well being of the community of people who serve and stand ready to defend the nation. Soldiers and their Families receive comprehensive health care, life insurance and generous vacation time.
Spouses and Family members can visit www.tricare.mil/mybenefit for information on medical benefits available through TRICARE or www.dmdc.osd.mil/rsl for military ID card facilities.
As a Soldier, you and your Family are entitled to service members group life insurance automatically covered by a comprehensive HMO-type military health-care plan called TRICARE that provides medical and dental care at little or no cost.
TRICARE enrollees receive most health care at a Military Treatment Facility, where a primary care manager supervises their care. The Army health-care team is one of the biggest health-care networks in the world, utilizing state-of-the-art technology in world-renowned facilities.
A network of "preferred" or "in-network" providers adds to the services offered at the Medical Treatment Facility's (MTFs). Soldiers and their Families are free to make appointments with any authorized provider.
Separate programs are available for Soldiers and their Families who are on remote assignment or overseas.
Example of Eligibility for the TRICARE-Family Member Dental Plan (FMDP). In 1986 Congress established the Dependent Dental Plan (DDP) for the spouse, children, and eligible Family members of active duty sponsors in the Seven Uniform Services; Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Public Health Services.
Example of Non-Eligibility for the TRICARE-FMDP applies to the following: Active duty sponsors; Former military sponsors and Family members; Former military sponsors who separated under special separation or transition assistance; Retired sponsors; Former spouses, Parents, Air Force or Contract Employees, and Family members who are not TRICARE eligible.
